This studio required a multi-scalar, interdisciplinary approach to urban design and architecture, spanning history, environment, production, and responsiveness from district to site. Developed on the parameters of the C40 Reinventing Cities Competition, the challenge was to develop a sustainable, resilient, equitable, and liveable design. These goals ultimately manifested themselves in a design for a productive arts neighbourhood that included commercial and residential programming.
The intent for the Innovation Hub is to translate, transform, and transcribe the nuances, assets, grit, of this part of the False Creek Flats into a democratic urban environment rooted in its productive past and rich differentiation. A place that maintains its tenacity but becomes accessible. An economic generator but one that prioritizes the pedestrian over the machine. A market of commerce but also a market of imagination, learning, and ideas
