Eventful History

Eventful History

These are the results of a thread of thought that associates a recalled city experience, childhood—memory—with a desired particular of the everyday—imagination. This studio project used specificities of memory of everyday acts to make form. Recollections elucidated, imagination taking shape, manifest in an episodic architecture. Episodic memory is triggered through cues and the dweller is a builder of these cues; artefacts, follies of memory. Catalysed via a demand of the present, the everyday is constructed according to one’s own desires, themselves a product of a lived and encoded experience. The following pages present three stages, marked by an evolving site drawing. Modifications are redlined, particulars annotated: a sketchbook, a guide, a children’s story, a diary, a desire, a memory. The work is a refamiliarization of the city proscenium; it is a pleasant dredging up, a bringing out of storage, of half-forgotten pasts into an unstable extancy.
