Detour - First Place Winner

In Edmonton there are two seasons: winter and construction. Our parklet design, entitled Detour, celebrates this, elevating off-the-shelf building materials and hardware to make a calming, high-quality, community first parklet space.

Our design can be completely disassembled, reassembled at any site, and repurposed after its summer tour of the Alberta Avenue neighbourhoods. Ctrl+A—pronounced ‘select all’—puts its intended users front and centre in all aspects of its design thinking.

We’ve considered the community in its assembly, inhabitation, deconstruction, and life beyond this design brief. Our proposed concept highlights the complexity that can be generated through careful, economical design that mobilizes the spirit and imagination of our city’s neighbourhoods.
